DSpace

Abstract:
DSpace is an open-source-software (BSD-license) to run a document server. It provides tools to collect, store circulate digital ressources. The software is used mostly in universities, libaries and research institutes for institutional repositories. Following the OAIS-reference-model DSpace was developed to assure stageies for long-term availability of digital ressources.

Architecture (Text):
DSpace has a three-ply-architecture:    
  • Application Layer - includes the components, which can be used as means of communication between DSpace and the environment, i.e. a web interface or an OAI-PMH-interface.
   
  • Business Logic Layer - in this layer the content, users, groups, rights and transactions are administrated.
   
  • Storage Layer - physical storage of metadata and content.
