Possibilitie(s) for modification:
In the software, the layout is independent from the program, so that the interface may be configured at will, using templates. A multilingual interface is also available. The workflow is controlled through the relational database.
Use external software / services:
GAPworks uses the programming language PHP as well as some PEAR packages, the web server Apache and the PostgreSQL database. All of these components are freely available.
Reuse:
GAPworks is used within GAP e. V. by the following members:
University Press Karlsruhe, Lemmens publishing and media company GmbH Bonn-Berlin-London, BIS publishing house of the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, University Press Goettingen. The open source version of GAPworks is used in the NRW project DiPP for the production of online journals.
Architecture (Text):
GAPworks runs as an Apache-webserver application. Users access GAPworks through their web browser. The relational PostgreSQL Database manages documents, controls the workflow and the access rights, and makes metadata available to external components via OAI-PMH. For the greater part, PHP was used for programming, while interfaces were designed with Smarty-Templates.
