Repository News: New version of EPrints and OPUS – Dspace and Fedora are presenting increasing usage numbers

The three most common repositories software EPrints, OPUS and DSpace/Fedora had several small news, which we have combined to one Repository News:

EPrints has published a new version of the repository software. The version 3.3.8 was already announced at the beginning of the year and is available from now on. But only a few changes have been made, the developers state: “Fixes several regressions in views code“ and “Fixes a regression on document format phrases“. For the new version of EPrints see http://files.eprints.org/723/

There is also a new version of the repository software OPUS, which was already published in January. Here are the changes more extensive, the new version 4.2.0 offers several new  features, for example a xml-based import-API for metadata, a global enrichment-administration or the extension of the editing stages of documents (new: “in editing” and “deny permission”). DSpace and Fedora have announced a growth in their usage numbers. In the year 2011 a moderate increase of registered instances with one of the soft wares installed has been recorded. 1269 instances with the repository software DSpace have been counted, what has been an increase of 100 instances in the year 2011. The framework for repositories Fedora has recorded a growth of 25% with a total of 251 instances, a number of 22 instances of the total is running with Islandora. Geographical has Fedora the most new instances in Lithuania. For further information including the lists of instances see http://duraspace.org/duratest/dspace-and-fedora-repository-growth
