DissOnline Tutor

Abstract:
The project DissOnline Tutor has three major aims:

  • Improvement of the technical quality of long-term storable electronic dissertations

  • Enhanced and permanent access to electronic dissertations and

  • Development and communication of tools for the creation and technical control of long-term storable electronic dissertations.

  • To achieve these aims, tools have been developed to support the authors of dissertations and professorial dissertations in the writing environment they are familiar with (Microsoft Word, Open- and StarOffice as well as TEX based formats). Interactive teaching and education modules have been developed to make the handling of these tools easier for authors. Both of these features are available for download on the website of the coordination center at the German National Library. University libraries are the authorities that make theses accessible in form and content via metadata and make them available on a long-term basis. Thus DissOnline Tutor offers university library staff material on data formats and tools for document testing in terms of long-term storage. This way, permanent access to electronic dissertations in libraries is ensured.
